Government Jobs: Over 4 Lakh Posts Lying Vacant in Central Govt

More than four lakh posts are lying vacant in the Central government as on March 1, 2016, according to a finance ministry report called Pay and Allowances of Central Government Civilian Employees for 2016-17 said. There is a need to capture jobs on the real-time basis, said Niti Aayog.

The report said that the number of vacancies came down from 6 lakhs as on March 1, 2013, to 4.21 lakh as on March 1, 2014. While the number of vacancies came down in a year, it remained same in subsequent years as it was in 2014, the report suggested.

Seventh Pay Commission is ready with its recommendations on revising emoluments for nearly 48 lakh central government employees and 55 lakh pensioners, and will soon submit report to the Finance Ministry.

Earlier in August, the government had extended Commission's term by another four months till December 31 to give recommendations.

"The Commission is ready with recommendations and the report will be submitted soon," according to sources.
